Total Defence Day 2011
Total Defence Day is commemorated on 15th February every year, the day Singapore fell to the Japanese during World War II in 1942.
This year, we want to remind students that “Everyone has a part to play in Total Defence”. In spite of Singapore’s peace and stability, we need to stay vigilant and positive in turning challenges into opportunities. Students participated actively in the Mock Food Emergency Exercise, which was organised to help them internalise the NE message that “No one owes Singapore a living”. They also learnt to respect food in a country like ours with no natural resources.
This year’s Total Defence theme is Home - Keeping It Together. It was reinforced during CE lessons when students designed collages on the theme. During the assembly programme, our CCE student leaders shared a video, on what the country means to them, and how they could defend Singapore. The students were excited as they answered questions during the Quiz on the video, “Every Singaporean Son – Breaking Point”. The assembly programme ended with a performance by students accompanied by a teacher, on the song “Home” by Kit Chan. It was indeed a memorable learning experience for both staff and students.
