Immersion @ SMKSETA, Johor Bahru
It was truly a fun and fruitful journey to Johor Bahru on 12th April 2010. The Tamil students going for the trip assembled at 6.30 am on Monday morning. After taking the attendance and finishing up the admin duties, the 23 students, 3 teachers and one tour guide boarded the bus. We cleared both the Singapore and Malaysia customs. As we had time on our hands, the teachers decided to stop for breakfast. We ate our breakfast at an Indian restaurant and we departed for the school. We arrived at SMK Sultanah Engku Tun Aminah . We had a chance to experience their classroom environment and the teacher gave us a taste of some of the subjects that they taught there. There were a few topics taught at that school that was not taught in Singapore. We had a short recess and had a chance to interact with the students there. We asked them many questions, ranging from their school life, to life at home and we got to know the students better. We realized that our lives were different in many ways and we were grateful for what we had. .
We then bid farewell to the students and teachers. Next we headed to a restaurant for lunch. We had good local delicacy. After the hearty meal, we left for sight-seeing. We visited the Istana and learned about Malaysian heritage and the fine history behind it. We visited the Glass Temple and the students were captivated by its beauty. We snapped many pictures to serve as memory. We had enough time for one last bit of the day. Shopping! We went to a local shopping center and shopped for souvenirs. We departed for Singapore soon after. It was a tiring but fulfilling trip.
