The Eskimos’ Battle

An ice-cream making competition was organized by Nanyang Polytechnic in collaboration with Swensens during the December vacation.  Two groups of pupils signed up for the competition.  Prior to the competition, the pupils attended a workshop on the science of making ice-cream at the Nanyang Polytechnic.  After the workshop, they went through a preliminary round and were selected to enter the finals. The theme for the finals was savoury ice-creams. One group of Sec 2 pupils (Thyra Tan, Lam Yan Leng and Eyrica Lee) came up with their walnut cinnamon flavour while another group of Sec 3 pupils (Joey Chua An Qi, Yvonne Loh Sze Wen and Michelle Wong Wei Lin) invented the peanut caramel flavour.  The two groups of pupils won consolation prizes of $50.00 each.  On top of that, Swensens found our pupil’s recipes workable and had them on sale for the first two weeks of July, 2010. Our pupils were also featured in their brochure. Our girls also received publicity when they were interviewed by Straits Times and were featured on Monday, 26 July 2010 Straits Times paper.

Well done, Queenstownians !

Following our pupils’ victory, Queenstown F&N teachers came up with their own peanut recipe and produced other varieties of ice-cream. The first attempt to promote healthy ice-cream to pupils was a great success. The feedback from the pupils was favourable for they loved the milky taste of the ice-creams. They keep coming back for more. Our peanut ice-cream was also the favourite of teachers and parents. Everyone gave thumbs up for this creative flavor.
