16 old folks from the Singapore Christian Home and Kreta Ayer Senior Activity Centre were invited to the school's Chinese New Year concert on 12th February 2010. They were very excited to watch the traditional lion dance and the beautiful dance performances put up by our pupils.
A total of $1000 was raised by the school staff and donated to beneficiaries of the Singapore Christian Home. Many parents and staff also generously donated food items to the home and activity centre. There was also strong support from the parents through kind donations of red packets from Mrs. Wong, mother of Wallace Wong (3A) and Mrs Quek, mother of Sophronia Quek (1E).
After the concert, pupils from 3A, together with the Parent Support Group, hosted a tea reception for the old folks. During the tea reception, many pupils learnt how to feed the elderly who had difficulties eating solid food. The pupils also taught them how to fold fishes from red packets. Through this CIP activity, the entire Queenstown family had the opportunity to bond together to do their bit for the elderly through their kind gestures and food and cash donations.
At the end of the tea reception, the pupils bade farewell to the old folks and presented hand-made gifts to them. The pupils learnt that they had to be more patient towards the elderly who were not as agile as they were. The old folks truly enjoyed their warm company and they would definitely extend the same attention and kindness to the other members in their family and community.
