HUMANITIES

Humanities is a unique subject which encompasses the major themes of Geography and History in facilitating the concept of enduring understanding of history over space and time as well as geography over different enviroments. Pupils will also learn the necessary skills to examine the causes and effects in relation to events in order to find out about the workings of human society and the natural world.

Other than History and Geography, Social Studies will help to develop pupils into well-informed, responsible citizens with a sense of natioanl identity and a global perspective. Issues identified in certain themes will enable pupils to learn about Singapore's road to independence and the problems we had overcome. This will set the stage for the discussion of the issues in the subsequent themes. In doing so, pupils will appreciate the constraints and the challenges countries face and become more aware of their role as members of the local and global community.

Other relevant skills to be obtained include the analyzing and evaluation of evidences, data, maps and information to make useful intrepretations regarding change and continuity in a place, system and people. Besides these, pupils will also learn how to detect inherent bias in given content and develop solutions for problems, as well as plan for the future.

Pupils can also make connections and draw appropriate conclusions in analyzing periods of historical and geograpical transitions in their own communities and worldwide. The unique interdependence between environment, man and his history will also be taught to give pupils a wide spectrum of knowledge across different disciplines.
